Cambodia, Sihanoukville Beaches Outside Of Town
It pays to be careful while driving along the roads to these beaches.
These beaches are quiet while the water is warm and shallow. Located off Hen Sen Beach Drive, go past the port and after a while you’ll see some small beaches on your left.
This beach is south of Ochheuteal and far less touristy than its neighbour. In fact, you’re hard pressed to spot anyone else there on occasions. Otres village is 1km off the beach. You can reach the beach by hiking around the rocks located at the furthest end of Ochheuteal. Or get to Omui Street; drive southeast about 4km to a junction; turn right and then take a left. Or find Kanda Street near Ochheuteal, turn left and over a bridge which crosses Chheuteal Creek, drive for 1km, turn right and carry on for a further 2km.
The Ream National Park beaches have fewer tourists than their Sihanoukville counterparts and there’s also a mangrove swamp behind the beach that you’ll see on your right hand side as you drive from downtown (which is richly populated with tropical birds). The beaches on your left are located close to a naval base, and drinks and floating tubes are now available to buy or rent. If you fancy staying the night near the Ream beaches, try the guesthouse run by the National Park. Rooms cost $5 per night. Enquire at the Park HQ (located opposite the airport entrance) for room availability. To reach the Ream beaches, take Route 4 to the Airport Road, which is 18km north of the town centre, make a right and then head 9km towards the Ocean.
BE CAREFUL!
Don’t leave your stuff unattended while on any of the beaches as theft (just like many other beaches across the world) is pretty common.
